"I don't have anything to hide but I don't have anything I want to show you either" AdBlock Plus I'd been told when I had it, changes Preferences in Safari with its auto updates, and it did so, as I observed.Dedicated to the intersection of technology, privacy, and freedom in the digital world. But uBlocks does blocks ads, i like that it comes on at login so that the lists can be updated and current. ![]() The uBlock website indicates that they had prepared for the 2019 Apple requirements for Safari 12 and were constantly improving and functional (as long as the app was allowed to open on log in, and both aspects of it check in Safari>Pref>Extensions once installed, as well as checking auto updates of it of that same panel.) I am happy with uBlock it is working - and then when I realized that it was not the uBlock Origin that had been suggested but a completely different product I felt confused as to whether I had made the right choice. I went for uBlock which is the only one with that title in it at the App Store currently (uBlock Origin doesn't appear). and ads reappeared as they were no longer being blocked. Now-Dec 2018: After the Mojave upgrade (which included upgrade to Safari 12 as part of it) AdBlock -Plus was removed as an operating extension at Safari>Pref>Extensions. uBlock Origin was also suggested, but some reading at the time pointed to it only working on the Chrome browser. ![]() "1 Blocker" was suggested by Etrecheck, noting that is needs to be disabled for online banking. ![]() After a Mojave 10.12.2 upgrade found those annoying popup ads present on YouTube and elsewhere happening that the AdBlock Plus had been blocking. Since Sept 2018 (I think the month is correct) another ad blocker that I was happy with as effective, AdBlock Plus, informed users of this app that Apple was removing the Extensions Gallery at the Apple icon on our computers and that it would be requiring major updates for ad blocking apps to be ready for 2019, if they wanted to be in the App Store. Has that situation changed is uBlock maintained now? I remember a post on this message board about uBlock, saw a recent one naming uBlock Origin and I thought that they were the same thing, especially because only uBlock appears currently with that name, on the App Store when searching ad blockers. I am back to my original question of some years ago now: which adblocker (which currently actually appears in the App Store) is best and why? Has uBlock improved since the Hacker News discussion on it comparing it to uBlock Origin in 2017? Here is the background: In 2017 "Hacker News" compared these two ad blocker noting that they are completely differentĪnd at that time they said the uBlock Origin was better and uBlock was not being continuously maintained. ![]()
